Ellen Smead is a certified nurse-midwife providing comprehensive care across pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, as well as throughout the reproductive years and beyond. Her clinical interests include perinatal education, maternal mental health, contraception and long-acting reversible contraception, and LGBTQ+ health.
Ellen’s path to midwifery is rooted in a strong background in global and public health. After completing undergraduate studies in international studies, she served in the United States Peace Corps in Benin, where she worked closely with communities and gained firsthand experience in women’s and maternal health. She later continued this work in public health roles focused on maternal and child health and immunization, which solidified her commitment to midwifery care.
As a midwife, Ellen is passionate about supporting patients through pregnancy, labor and birth, while also providing thoughtful, continuous care throughout all stages of reproductive health. She values education, access and compassionate support as central components of her practice.
Outside of the clinic, Ellen enjoys spending time with her husband and children, as well as being outdoors, reading and practicing yoga.
