OB Ultrasound Preparation

We provide a variety of obstetric imaging including dating scans, Nuchal Translucency (NT) genetic screenings, anatomy scans and 3D ultrasounds.

Dating Ultrasound (10 Weeks or Less)

  • Increase water intake starting the day before your appointment.
  • Eat a healthy, well-balanced meal 1–2 hours before your visit.
  • You may empty your bladder and provide a urine specimen prior to your scan.
  • These scans are typically performed vaginally; shaving is not required.

Nuchal Translucency (NT) Ultrasound

  • Increase water intake starting the day before your appointment.
  • Eat a healthy, well-balanced meal 1–2 hours before your visit.
  • Do not urinate before your exam. We will collect a urine specimen once the ultrasound is complete.
  • Note: NT testing is generally covered by insurance but may apply to your deductible.

Routine OB Ultrasound (20 Weeks or More)

  • You may empty your bladder and provide a urine specimen prior to your scan.

GYN Ultrasound Preparation

We offer in-office imaging to evaluate the uterus, ovaries and cervix. While most GYN scans are performed vaginally, we offer abdominal scans for our adolescent patients.

Routine GYN Ultrasound

  • Increase water intake starting the day before your appointment.
  • You may empty your bladder and provide a urine specimen prior to your scan.
  • Most scans are performed vaginally; shaving is not required.

Full-Bladder Abdominal Scan

  • Increase water intake starting the day before your appointment.
  • Drink 32 ounces of water (approximately two standard bottles) two hours before your appointment.

Do not empty your bladder until the ultrasound technician has completed the exam.
